EK MULAQAAT by Saif Hyder Hasan

“Whether you’re a romantic at heart, treasure unrequited love tales or have a penchant for soulful shayari, Ek Mulaqaat is an absolute treat, the kind of theatrical brilliance that you get to witness once in a while.” – TOI

In a phenomenal victory for Indian theatre, while one film actress debuts as a director, another marks her debut as a theatre actress!

Someone who has proved her mettle time and again on the 70 mm screen, Deepti Naval is well-loved by her niche audience. Even then, she was initially hesitant to portray the role of the enigmatic Punjabi writer and poetess, Amrita Pritam, in front of a live gathering. “I was nervous because Delhiites are familiar with Amrita Pritam and her work and they might judge my character. At the same time I was excited as a Delhi audience can crack the Punjabi and Urdu dialogues unlike Mumbai audience,” she said. (Source: The Indian Express).

Based on a fictitious meeting on a cold winter night between Amrita and her alleged muse, the Urdu poet and lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi (played by the eloquent Shekhar Suman), the play spins an insightful tale about unrequited love and poignant musings about what could or could not have been. Punctuated by heart-warming shayari, the impressive multi-lingual parley keeps the spectators and the actors warm as the night progresses.

Another star has been reborn with Naval’s impactful entry into hard-core theatre and it would be safe to say that this story is well on its way to becoming a classic. A meeting of two literary giants enacted by two actors who do full justice to their roles, this once in a blue moon piece is not something you should let yourself miss. Witness poetry in motion..quite literally!

Watch the play on Oct.14th & 15th, 8:00pm to witness their memorable night!  Book tickets here: http://ow.ly/SSAEQ
