Up, up and away!

Indulge in some patang-baazi at these action packed kite festivals

9th August, 2012 Chetna Dua, Hindstan Times

Flying Kites is considered one of the most favourite past-times in India, especially in the northern and western parts of the country. The months of July and August see the maximum kite battles in the air, as it’s the period close to Independence Day. The thrill of cutting each other’s kites is on a high during this period in the Capital, and reaches its peak on August 15, with people enjoying the activity either with their friends and family or at various kite festivals in the city. So, whether you are an amateur or a professional at patangbazi, you can take part in the high-octane kite battles at these kite festivals in the city.

The carnival will begin with kite flying session by Bhai Miyan (Limca Book of records holder) who will fly 101 kites at one go for the audience. Guests who feel inspired can also buy kites and manja (string) from a stand nearby to fly kites in the open grounds at the venue. “The session of kite flying is our main attraction every year”, says Nitin Mathur, General Manager, Epicentre. Those who are tired after all the exercise can relish delicious snacks from the food court or shop for handicrafts at the flea market.
